The 60D was my first DSLR, having exhausted the possibilities of my Canon G10. Having had it for about a year now, I'm happy to say that I'm very pleased I got it. It has travelled with me around Norway and the USA and I have shot some commercial events on it and it has performed very well. The picture quality has been excellent across all lenses I've used, particularly in good light.Although the plastic body might worry some people I've found it to be very solidly constructed. The nine-point AF system is fast and accurate, although it does struggle in very low light. I found the button layout to be excellent, with everything within easy reach. The top LCD panel is very handy when out shooting sunrises etc., although it's a shame the timer display for bulb mode is only shown on top as you can't get to this in the dark without ruining a shot. Not a big problem though - I just use the timer on my phone. I've also found the swivel screen to be very useful. It is much better placed than similar screens on other brands as it swivels out to the side rather than underneath. It's saved me a lot of backache when shooting for long periods on a tripod, as I don't have to stoop down to see the LCD properly. It's a shame that the swivel screen hasn't been introduced to Canon's higher end bodies yet, although I guess that weather sealing might have something to do with this.Fortunately, I've not encountered any of the problems that some of the 1 and 2 star reviewers have found. I use a rotating set of around 8 SD cards and have never had a problem with the camera not recognising them. I did have one instance of a card corrupting, but I think that's down to a combination of poor maintenance of my part and a less-than-fantastic quality SD card in the first place. Nor have I come across any error messages at all.The camera's not perfect though. My biggest complaint is with its low light performance. It certainly blows my old G10 out of the water in this respect - as it should do - but I've found that when shooting at anywhere approaching or beyond ISO 800 it introduces too much noise for my liking. This has never been a massive problem for me as the lenses I'm using are either fast enough or have good enough image stabilisation that I rarely need to go beyond ISO 400, but there are times, particularly when trying to capture sharp starry skies that it's clear the camera is not quite up to it.My other main gripe is with the lack of weather sealing. I didn't think it would be a problem as I've used my compact and bridge cameras sparingly in light rain before without any issues, but I've found on several occasions that getting this body caught in even a little rain can lead to problems - in my case, the centre select button refused to function, leaving me unable to change many settings or, importantly, format SD cards. This has only ever been a temporary issue though, with everything returning to normal after eight hours or so of drying out.If you're looking for a mid-range DSLR I would strongly recommend the 60D.

I've been using a Canon 300D for many years and decided to upgrade to a 60D. Although I own a Canon lens or two, I wanted this kit as it contained two IS lenses providing an upgrade to the delights of image stabilised lens. This is an exceptional beast and its capabilities are a major leap forward from my old 300D. Most impressive is the fast drive at over 5 frames per second with the AI servo focus automatically tracking a moving subject. Excellent ISO range is particularly useful for me as I prefer to use hand-held and ramping up the ISO allows me to travel lighter without the tripod. The camera is easy to control and gives a wide range of pre-sets and overrides giving direct control over speed, aperture, ISO and metering mode. The IR remote I used on my 300D works on this camera and I've invested a few pennies in a wired-remote which can be programmed for time-lapsed photography (e-bay purchase from HK - much cheaper). One negative aspect is the live-view which proved a disappointment. It is nice to have a big screen to review images, but live-view through the screen makes the camera very sluggish and many of the camera features are not available in this mode. I'm used to using the viewfinder and will probably only use live-view on rare occasions.Fantastic results - well worth the money.

My first DSLR camera, and very happy with it.I spent months researching which make, canon, Nikon and Sony being the big 3.Canon have as far as I can tell the biggest selection of lenses and are used the world over by professional photographers.Plus almost every photography magazine i read in the Uk atleast, predominently used Canon 60D, 7D and 5D's in there reviews and guides on how to take photos of portraits, landscapes etc... So Canon had to be the make of DSLR really. The model I initially looked at getting was the cheaper 600D. I tried it out and 60D in a local camera shop, and felt the 60d to be better built. It's not maybe as tank like as te more expensive 7D and 5D models which are essentially produced with a solid metal body. The 60D being an aluminum plastic composit, which is very strong and what apple use, so it's sturdy and light. The 600D on the other hand is just all over plastic and felt a bit fragile in comparison. So I Plummed for the 60d with the kit lense 18-55, as described in the tech details.I also purchased a f1.8 50 prime canon lense.Iv had the camera and lenses now 6 months or so.I love his camera, and have had a chance to try the more expensive 7D which is really heavy and I felt because of the added wait not as good as the 60D, for someone who who loves photography but is not a pro. It's right balance of top end camera and weight, for someone wanting there first DSLR, but one that's better that entry level. It's essentially the second best non full frame DSlR that Canon do., the 7D being slightly better.I would recommend this camera to anyone, although I use the 50 prime I got for about £85, 90% of the time as the increased light you get from a low f1.8 stop and great portraits it takes, results in me hardy ever using the kit lense,Recently my brother in law tried My 60D and had to get one, a month later he now has it and is taking super photos of his children too.A brilliant camera, yes it's expensive but it got most of the features of the far more costly models canon makes all for under 900 with a lense.

As I write this review, I am still in the early stages of getting used to using this brilliant camera.I upgraded from an EOS 400D which I found to be a fantastic camera too, but as my interest in photography deepens, I was looking forward to moving up the range. It is an APS-C crop which allows me to use the same range of lenses as on my 400D, to keep costs down. What attracted me to this camera? Well to begin with the extra mega-pixels of course - it allows for deeper cropping in my case, but of course better image quality generally (although the 400d was really good). Secondly, I was attracted by the Liveview facility, although as yet, I haven't used it very much. I'm sure I will. Thirdly, I was looking forward to improved images due to the improved processor. So how do I find the camera so far?Well, it is a little heavier than my 400d, but not massively so. The location of many of the functions is different so I am still getting used to that, having become very familiar with the 400d's locations. The layout of the camera functions is very neat and tidy, and the ability to use Quickview to get to most of your functionality is great. I find it just a little frustrating though that you have to make exposure adjustments using Quickview, rather than using the wheel on the top of the camera in conjunction with the AV button on the 400d. Still, I expect that is just something to get used to.I like the facility to have ISO settings up to 12800, although I have found the noise increases significantly beyond 800 ISO. There are customs functions to reduce noise level for long exposures and high ISO of course, but it is for me still very noticeable.I have not yet used the movie mode (not really my interest I'm afraid) so I cannot comment on that, but have no reason to believe that it is anything but good. So, would I buy this camera again, given what I have learned so far? You bet! It's a lovely piece of kit restrained only by inabilities of it's owner! Still I hope on day to be able to live up to it's expectations in me!

After doing lots of on-line research, I decided to treat myself to this Canon 60D Kit for xmas from Amazon, I also ordered the 50mm 1.4 prime lens and a few other bits.I've been into Photography for about 40yrs, my previous DSLR's include the 550D and Nikon D90.There may be cheaper options on a certain auction site, if you don't mind having a grey import model, personally I value having that Canon UK warranty, and a proper UK power supply etc. already in the box.Amazons price for a UK Stock model is very competitive indeed, and their returns policy is excellent, if only for peace of mind. The camera itself is superb, and works perfectly, it produces brilliant images, feels top quality in the hands, with a fantastic articulating high res lcd screen. What more could you ask for.The 18-135mm lens in this kit is not top of the range, however, it produces some very good results especially once stopped down a little, and IMO it may be a touch sharper than the much older USM 17-85mm lens. The glass in the 18-135 is not too bad at all, and you have that extra range, albeit at the loss of the USM, so a matter of personal choice. It's also a nice walkabout lens giving you decent range yet still retaining the option for those wider shots, build quality also appears a little better than the cheaper 18-55mm. It appears to focus quicker, and seems a little quieter than the 18-55mm kit lens..JMOThose that can afford it may appreciate the extra quality by choosing the 15-85mm lens, but I don't think you will be disappointed by the images this kit produces. I would also recommend the purchase of the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4, you will be blown away by the IQ that can be achieved with both these prime lens, as ultimately any camera is only as good as the lens you put on it.I can highly recommend this item from Amazon 9.5/10Why Amazon? Well besides the reasons I've already mentioned above, if you have a issue, you can call them on their free support number, or email them and in my experience they will always endevour to resolve any issue one may have, without any hassle. IOW, as big as they are, Amazon is aware the customer has choices to shop elswhere, and will go that extra mile to secure your custom, and their customer service is first class. This is a company that deserves to succeed. Thank you Amazon!.I would however like to see Amazon.. pack expensive items such as DSLR camera etc, a little better. Just plonking them inside a larger box with a small amount of crushed paper for cushioning is not really enough. They still move about a lot in the box, so, a little extra care in this area would be assuring from a customers point of view anyway, with most items it does'nt matter, but with expensive fragile kit like this, having the item not rolling around in the box would be appreciated.
