I bought these to add studs to my felt-soled wading boots. The boots are old and a bit tatty, but I reasoned that the addition of studs would give them a couple more years of life before replacement is inevitably needed. However, test measurements of the thickness of the soles and the length of the screw thread of the studs indicated that they were very similar. I have therefore yet to fit them until I can find a suitable inner sole to prevent the tip of the screw penetrating the waterproof boot of my breathable waders. The screw thread length is listed as 8 mm, but a few in the box appear to be fractionally longer. Since the waders cost 20 times the price of the studs that seemed to be a sensible precaution.Note that these studs are aluminium, not tungsten. They will be fine for lightweight usage, but will rapidly wear out if you walk on tarmac or rick for long periods. This is reflected in the pricing. For comparison, the equivalent tungsten (tungsten carbide) studs cost two to three times as much.For lightweight use, in thick enough soles, these should do the trick.

The studs are quite soft, about needing a new set already.

These studs certainly look like they will provide extra grip on ice, they are similar to the tips on my walking poles. I plan to fit these to my walking boots when we get some freezing weather, hopefully they will just screw in with the supplied wrench. I will update this review once I have used them properly.
