love the player, its not hi-end buts its not bargain generic either .. ive gone through several players over the years, mostly to support an extensive dvd and file collection and now we have bluray capability although its not my main use ... my initial feelings after setting it up and exploring its operation is - its simple, it plays most file formats, runs fairly quiet, looks good, footprint on the small side, and the remote works really well not directional like some can be, also 'most' settings are auto detected but a couple requires going into settings which is relatively quick and painless ... it does have some quirks but theyre not serious imo, such as it likes to be stopped before the next operation, it likes the tray closed with the button before play is pushed, it doesnt like to be interrupted with a disk in the tray etc .. all procedure type things, do it how it likes and it doesnt complain .. another thing is the power and eject button on the unit itself are large and right above the usb port - i challenge you to insert or remove a usb without hitting them haha, an extension cable will solve that .. also when playing files off the usb it plays all video formats ive thrown at it with the exception of oddball audio formats .. so, so far so good .. lastly, the manual doesnt list my hisense tv as compatible with the tv/volume controls on the remote, but it is, just do the manual procedure and hold the buttons in turn several seconds until you hit the right one, red i think it was .. finally, at the risk of being preachy i'll pass a general tip along ive learned over the years - dont turn the tv off and leave a player with a disk in it spinning on a menu all night and fall asleep, eject any disks and shut it down, ALL the way down, disable fast start in settings to, itl last longer ..

I DISLIKE THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO MARRY TO MY LG OLED TV WHEN IT COMES TO PLAY DVD'S. THE TWO DON'T WANT TO WORK TOGETHER WHICH CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING . THAT SAID WHEN IT FINALLY DOES WORK THE PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING

I primarily bought this player to have it as a dedicated audio player with the capability of playing BDs when needed. And while it does that just fine, I was hoping for more quality audio output. The UPB-X700 has only HDMI outputs, one of which is a dedicated audio output, which is one of the main reasons I paid extra for this particular model. However, I was quite disappointed when I compared it to my existing 14 years old Denon DN-C200 Professional CD changer, which I use mainly as a CD transport unit through a coaxial connection. There is no doubt in my mind that the Denon just sounds better when playing standard Redbook audio CDs. As for SACD performance, I compared it to my old PS3 and did not feel that the UPB-X700's dedicated audio HDMI output offered any audible difference in terms of signal quality over my PS3's standard HDMI output.Furthermore, this unit does not like scratched discs at all! It skips like crazy when you have heavily scratched CDs playing, compared to my Denon player from yesteryear, which manages to correct the errors and give you a smoother listening experience. The unit itself is very plasticky and feels very hollow and cheap, but the design, which I find elegant, compensates somewhat for the cheap feel of the unit. Another downside is that this has a separate DC adapter, which I am not a fan of and I feel adds some clutter to an otherwise neat presentation.Otherwise, this is a decent enough player, it's honestly just fine. However, I would opt for the cheaper model that has no dedicated HDMI audio output as this doesn't offer much in terms of quality, and if you have it hooked to an AVR with your TV on, it decides to switch to video HDMI mode and tells you that you have the HDMI cable connected to the wrong output... Painful...One last thing, if you're buying this unit from an international seller, just ensure to take a moment and look at the voltage to make sure it is compatible with your region.
